“In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death” (Proverbs 14:26-27).
Two graphic metaphors are used here to illustrate the value and importance of fearing Jehovah.
The first is of an impregnable stronghold. It is a place you can go and find protection and refuge. Here you can go and with great confidence feel completely safe and secure.
The second is of a pristine spring of water which provides an endless, abundant supply of refreshment and renewal. It is free from every impurity. Just as water supplies the most essential need for survival of the human body, the fear of Jehovah is the most basic of essentials for the health and well-being of the human soul.
Protection. Safety and security.
Refreshment. Renewal and health.
Two graphic metaphors which make one point: FEAR the Lord.
