“The crown of the wise is their riches, but the foolishness of fools is folly” (Proverbs 14:24).
Some things in life are steppingstones or launching pads for something better and greater. Wisdom, for example, is a path which leads to: departing from evil (Prov. 14:16), increased learning (Prov. 1:5), the right use of knowledge (Prov. 15:2), self-understanding (Prov. 14:8), genuine strength (Prov. 24:5), self-control (Prov. 10:19), happiness (Prov. 3:13), and glory (Prov. 3:35). In short, “he who gets wisdom loves his own soul” (Prov. 19:8) and has a vast treasury of rich blessings showered upon him.
Not so with folly. The downhill path of folly is a dead end. The ultimate destination of “the foolishness of fools is folly.”
