The Wisdom of Heeding Correction

“Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, but he who regards a rebuke will be honored” (Proverbs 13:18).

No one likes being wrong. It is much easier to theoretically accept the truth that “All have sinned” than it is to confess the reality when “I have sinned.”

Wise people learn from their own mistakes. They do not allow their pride to deafen their ears to loving correction when it is offered. There is no desirable future when you choose to disdain and disregard correction. That path only leads to poverty and shame.

To take reproof, rebuke, and correction to heart is to pursue a wise path. It will aim you toward preventing sin and to promptly addressing your sin when in the wrong.

You will not live sinlessly, but you can live blamelessly. God blesses and humanity honors those who wisely heed correction.
