“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels” (Hebrews 12:22).
The English word “myriad” comes from the Greek word myrias which is translated as “innumerable” in this verse. In Jude 14 and Revelation 5:11 this noun is used to provide an approximation of the vast number of angels who populate heaven.
When Jehovah of hosts created these holy beings, He did so with great abundance “myriades times myriadon” is how Revelation 5:11 describes their number. Since angels do not marry nor are given in marriage (Matthew 22:30), these citizens of heaven do not procreate. Therefore, their innumerable population has not increased or decreased since God created them.
At Mount Sinai a number of Jehovah’s angels apparently played a role in the giving of the Law to Moses and the nation of Israel (Acts 7:38, 53; Galatians 3:19). If the presence of angels bespeaks the importance of the law and the need to heed it, how much more does the presence of the innumerable company of angels who are associated with Christ and His gospel?
The exhortation to “See that you do not refuse Him who speaks” (Hebrews 12:25) cannot be more forcefully argued.
