“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
Right and wrong, truth and error, goodness and evil, heaven and hell matter to God. Therefore, it is far more important that you “get” God than that God “gets” you.
The Greek word translated “rewarder” (misthapodotes) only occurs here in the New Testament. The feminine form of this root (misthapodosia) is used three times. Each occurrence is helpful in understanding the scope of God’s remuneration package.
“For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward” (Hebrews 2:2).
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward” (Hebrews 10:35).
“esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward” (Hebrews 11:26).
Though the reward of eternal blessedness is the facet of His compensation package emphasized in Hebrews 10:35, 11:6, and 11:26, the curse of eternal condemnation (mentioned in Hebrews 2:2) is also a possible wage you can receive from your Heavenly Paymaster.
Those who do not cast away their confidence will receive lavish compensation from our divine Rewarder. Those who do will be recompensed with perdition, the just recompense for neglecting their salvation.
All will be recompensed because God is a Rewarder, the bestower of eternal remuneration.
