“let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:22-25).
To whom great privileges have been granted, great responsibilities have been given.
What practical value is the privilege of having unfettered access to the Throne room of heaven (Hebrews 10:19-21), if you don’t hold fast to the anchor of hope?
Not only does a Christian have bold access to God’s presence in prayer, he also has a hope which is anchored to the immutable counsel of God which was confirmed with an oath (Hebrews 6:17-19). It is anchored in heaven’s Throne room by Jesus, our forever high priest (Hebrews 6:20).
There is nothing said or done on earth which can destroy or even weaken in any way this indestructible anchor. Its strength is derived from the truth that every person confesses in becoming a Christian—that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. This truth is the impregnable bedrock of Christ’s church (Matthew 16:16-18) and is the confession which anchors our hope.
Just as God’s truth never erodes or bends, your confession of the truth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God ought to be steady and unswerving. The wondrous privilege of Jesus being our forever High Priest results in the responsibility to hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering. The absolute faithfulness of God to His promises and predictions of the Old Testament results in your personal responsibility to be equally faithful to your confession of His Son.
“Let us” seize the responsibilities inherent in our privileges.
