“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness…Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:7-8, 12-13).
Your earthly life is a finite number of “today”s lived consecutively. Your immortal life hereafter is an eternal and unchangeable existence determined by how you lived your lifetime of “today”s. Therefore, the urgency of attending to life’s most important matter—your heart—cannot be overstated.
Today you need to hear God’s voice as revealed by the Holy Spirit and recorded in the Scriptures.
Today you must not harden your heart in rebellion to God’s will.
Today you must beware of the grave danger of developing an evil heart of unbelief which apostatizes from the living God.
Today you must diligently guard against the deceitfulness of sin.
Today you will make a monumental decision—you will either draw closer to God and live obediently to Him, or you won’t.
As Moses’ generation learned, obeying God tomorrow when it should have been done today is fatal (Numbers 14:40-45).
The importance of today and how you choose to live it is eternally significant. Live today wisely.
