“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus…” (Hebrews 3:1).
Unlike Judaism, Christianity has no need to keep extensive genealogical records. Giving any heed to “endless genealogies” (1 Timothy 1:4) is unnecessary.
An important reason for this is that Christianity has and will have only one High Priest. Jesus is the first and only one. He is THE High Priest. He always lives to make intercession for all who come to God (Hebrews 7:25).
Here is another one of the many glorious and brilliant facets of God’s manifold grace and wisdom. In selecting the High Priest/mediator of the new covenant, God appointed Jesus Christ whose humanity and deity perfectly bridged the gap between heaven and earth. Also, this One He ordained is immortal—unceasingly able to make intercession for every generation in human history. He is One who is impervious to the passage of time. He will never need a successor.
Just as Jesus was perfect and faithful in His work on earth as God’s apostle, He is perfect and faithful in His work in heaven as our High Priest.
