The triune God has revealed Himself to humanity in three distinct ways. The existence of these three avenues of revelation meets the divine legal requirement of “by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established” (Deuteronomy 19:15).
In nature (i.e., natural revelation), God’s invisible attributes of eternal power and Godhead are clearly seen (Romans 1:20). His blessings of rain from heaven and fruitful seasons provide witness to Him and His goodness (Acts 14:17). The precise and intricate design of heaven and earth so declare His glory (Psalm 19:1-7) that only a fool says in his heart “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). Just as every house (an effect) has a builder (an adequate cause), so the effects of the existence of time, space, matter, and life must have an adequate and uncaused cause; therefore, “He who built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4).
In Scripture (i.e., supernatural, written revelation), Jehovah used around forty men over a span of about 1,600 years to write a perfectly cohesive document. In the most concise and simplest language, the Scriptures unveil God’s glorious and gracious eternal purpose of human salvation in Christ Jesus. With such irrefutable proofs as predictive prophecy, impartiality, and flawless perfection, the Holy Scriptures provide abundant and sufficient evidence of its divine inspiration. It clearly is the perfect word of God.
In Jesus of Nazareth (i.e., incarnate revelation), the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). This revelation of God was so flawless and complete that when Philip requested of Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father”, Jesus’ response was, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:8-9). In Christ, God and His utter holiness are demonstrated to be real, not fanciful myths of human imagination. Jesus, His life, His atoning and brutal death, and His triumphant resurrection are facts of history. His apostles heard and saw Him. Their eyes looked upon Him and their hands handled Him (1 John 1:1). With many infallible proofs and multiple eyewitnesses, His deity (John 20:30-31) and resurrection (Acts 1:3) have been confirmed. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16).
No truth of human existence has greater proof than the simple statement: God is.
