“Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin” (Romans 14:22-23).
Every person’s conscience matters to God. This is why your brother’s conscience ought to matter to you (Romans 14:1-21) and why your faith with its unique convictions over matters indifferent to God ought to matter to you and your brethren (Romans 14:22-23).
You should neither transgress a brother’s conscience nor do anything which violates your own conscience. What matters most on such occasions is not the specific item involved but whether you take an action which violates your conscience or another’s.
If there arises any doubt about what you should do, the prescribed course of action is: Don’t do it. Be content with living in such a way that you do not violate your own conscience nor the conscience of another.
