“He paid a debt He did not owe; I owed a debt I could not pay. I needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand-new song—Amazing Grace! Christ Jesus paid the debt that I could never pay.”
Though sin enslaves and will ultimately torture and kill you, what exactly does it rightfully deserve from you? Its pleasures soon pass but its tyrannical chains do not.
Satan has such little regard for you that once he has bankrupted you spiritually and exhausted your usefulness to him, he executes you. “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die” (Romans 8:12-13a).
Thanks be to God that every slave of sin can be freed by the gospel.
Thanks be to God that “if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13b).
