“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2).
God’s plan of justifying humanity is by faith in the faith. God’s grace is accessed by obedient faith. Once this blessed access has been obtained, we must remain or stand therein. The gospel of God’s grace saves all who hold fast to it; to fail to stand in God’s grace is to have “believed in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:2).
Just as it is possible to “depart from iniquity” (2 Timothy 2:19), it is also possible to “depart from the faith” (1 Timothy 4:1), depart from the living God (Hebrews 3:12), and believe for a little while, then depart in time of temptation (Luke 8:13).
Departing from God’s grace is “Certainly NOT!” the same as standing in it.
God’s grace can be spurned, departed from after initially being justified by it, or stood in and be eternally saved by it.
