“…in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:21-22).
With the introduction of the assembly line by Ransom E. Olds in 1901, individual craftsmanship over the past twelve decades has waned in America. Mass production greatly reduces labor costs per unit which massively increases consumer affordability and the potential for producer profits.
It has become more and more difficult to find well-built, carefully constructed, precisely assembled products. Old-fashioned craftsmanship is an increasingly endangered commodity in today’s marketplace.
The holy temple Jesus has built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets cuts no corners of craftsmanship. Paul describes the construction of the whole building to be tongue-in-groove-esque: sunarmologeo. It is “fitted together”. Each member of this spiritual body perfectly harmonizes with its other parts like the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons of your physical body do.
The purpose of this construction which Jesus builds together (sunoikodomeo) is to provide the holy God of heaven a proper dwelling place in the Spirit.
What an amazing architect and builder constructed the temple God has dwelt in for the past 19+ centuries!
