Misfits

“Luxury is not fitting for a fool, much less for a servant to rule over princes” (Proverbs 19:10).

People who do not know how to wisely steward wealth is misfitted with good fortune. Often people who grow up in wealth and luxury have no appreciation for the personal value of hard work and of being frugal. They have not had to carefully steward every penny to make their “ends meet”. They do not work ten to sixteen or more hours a day six or seven days a week to build the wealth their ancestors did. All they know is ease and plenty. If they are a fool, they arrogantly assume a mindset of entitlement and are profusely wasteful. What folly!

People who do not know how to wisely administer authority entrusted to them is an even greater misfit. When authority over others makes you haughty and unkind, you have been given authority beyond the capacity of your character and/or experience. Paul warns of this when selecting bishops (in 1 Tim. 3:6).

Authority in the home, church, and society is delegated by God for a specific purpose—edification (2 Cor. 10:8; 13:10). Your fundamental duty is to help those entrusted to your oversight become better people. It is not an ego trip. It is a solemn responsibility.

          Don’t be a misfit.
