“He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer” (Proverbs 18:9).
Shoddy workmanship is a clear and accurate expression of your character. Inattention to detail and a lack of diligence are not the products of your circumstances, they are open manifestations of your lack of integrity.
A Christian is not to lag in diligence; rather, he is to be fervent in spirit (Rom. 12:11). All his work is to be done heartily—as to the Lord and not to man (Col. 3:23)—doing the will of God from the heart with good will (Eph. 6:6-7). The “Golden Rule” (Mat. 7:12) would dictate that his workmanship ought to mirror the expectations he would have if he was the recipient of the work he is doing.
The most sobering realm of your workmanship is found in your handling of God’s word. Jehovah’s high expectations are: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). Shoddy workmanship with the word of truth will be regretted intensely and eternally.
