The Taproot of Evil

“When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes reproach” (Proverbs 18:3).

The significance of fearing God cannot be overestimated. It is “by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil” (Ps. 36:1-2). Therefore, when there is no reverence for God in the heart, wickedness with its contempt for holy things will result.

Sexual permissiveness and deviancy…abortion and all other forms of murder…no-fault divorce…humanism…feminism…and the explosion of all other forms of uncleanness, vile passions, and debased thinking are rooted in contempt for God and His holiness. Such wickedness dishonors and brings reproach upon a nation (Prov. 14:34) and each person who defiles himself in this pigpen of spiritual filth.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor. 6:9-10).

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-21).

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Rev. 21:8).

When all has been heard, the conclusion remains: “Fear God and keep His commandments” (Ecc. 12:13).
