“He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, and the father of a fool has no joy…A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him” (Proverbs 17:21, 25).
One of the oft-ignored truths about parenthood is the horror and pain a wicked adult child inflicts upon his father and mother. Do you really think Judas or Jack the Ripper made his parents proud?
How horrific it must have been for Adam and Eve to bury the corpse of Abel, knowing their son had been murdered by their very own offspring. What intense sorrow they must have experienced. What intense grief had overwhelmed Adam. What bitterness haunted the core of Eve’s being.
The heart of the Father of spirits (Heb. 12:9) breaks whenever a creature made in His image chooses to be a scoffer and/or a fool. It breaks His heart. Beloved, “do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God” (Eph. 4:30).
