“Rebuke is more effective for a wise man than a hundred blows on a fool” (Proverbs 17:10).
Some people never learn.
The Bible term for them is “fool”. The fool is so devoted to his folly that even if he received and survived the most extreme physical punishment imaginable (two and a half times the legal limit of blows—Deut. 25:3), he would still stubbornly cling to his folly. You cannot help a fool learn anything. He has no appetite for wisdom.
A wise person hungers and thirsts for wisdom. He is ever listening to learn. A simple rebuke will add to the amount of wisdom in his ever-increasing storehouse. As Jesus grew from childhood to manhood, He increased in wisdom (Luke 2:2, 51-52). He was a sponge for wisdom.
Being strong willed in the realm of obedience is godly (Is. 50:7; Luke 9:51). Being hard-headed in the realm of wisdom is folly.
How much do you hunger and thirst for wisdom?
