The Fundamental Difference Between God and Satan

“He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends” (Proverbs 17:9).

Why do people do what they do?

It is a fascinating question. It can be a challenging and difficult question. When reframed as “Why do I do what I do?”, it can be a question with a less than flattering answer.

Why does God do what He does? Why did He eternally purpose, and then in the fullness of time, send the His Lamb into this world to an acceptable sacrifice to cover the transgressions of all humanity? Why did He make available all spiritual blessings to every person who obeys the simple terms of the gospel? Why did He reveal the inspired Scriptures so every human could learn of the beautiful thread of redemption He has so carefully woven into human history? Why does He generously provide every one of the new creatures in Christ with a living hope of eternal life? Why does He provide justification, sanctification, and glorification—the past, present, and future of the gospel of Christ?

Because He seeks your love—pure and passionate. Love which comes from every fiber and part of your being—heart, mind, soul, and body. Love which leaves nothing in reserve—all of your heart, all of your mind, all of your soul, and all of your body. He offers to cover all your transgressions and spiritual shortcomings, because He seeks your love.

Why does Satan do what he does? Why does he slither like a subtle snake, prowl like a roaring lion, and attack like a ferocious dragon? Why does he lie, slander, accuse, abuse, torment, and seek to enslave?

Because he seeks your death and destruction. He desires to alienate you from God, your mate, your parents, your siblings, your children, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, your fellow-countrymen. Every good and helpful relationship God has placed in your life Satan passionately pursues its destruction.

The fundamental difference between God and Satan could not be more plain, more drastic, or more critical. It is the difference between light and darkness, life and death, heaven and hell.
