“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits…Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts” (Proverbs 16:2, 21:2).
“Follow your heart” is not Biblical counsel. Jeremiah explains why it is foolish and evil advice: “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (17:9).
Everyone is prone to rationalizing his own wicked behavior and justifying or ignoring impure motives. Therefore, each of us can concoct the belief that every decision and behavior he has is right and acceptable before God. Satan is skilled at conveniently placing your impure motives in your spiritual blind spot.
But nothing is hidden from Jehovah. “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). Every thought, motive, action, and word of your life is as visible to God as the sun at high noon on a cloudless day in the desert is to you.
Do not follow the profane and evil counsel to “follow your heart”. Follow God’s word instead.
