“He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding” (Prov. 15:32).
The folly of self-harm is evident to every clear-thinking person. “For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church” (Eph. 5:29).
More egregious than the folly and horror of harming yourself physically is harming yourself spiritually. Everyone who disdains divine instruction despises his own soul. He, therefore, is engaging in behavior which will result in the second death—eternal separation from God (Prov. 21:8).
The source of this horrific harm is one hundred percent personal. You, and you alone, decide whether you will disdain divine guidance and choose to walk in the way that seems right to you but ends in spiritual and eternal death (Prov. 14:12). You, and you alone, decide whether you will heed divine rebuke and get the understanding and wisdom which is able to save your soul.
Do yourself no harm!
