“The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise. He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility” (Proverbs 15:31-33).
The path to wisdom has several stout challenges. The biggest of which is probably the proper response to rebuke.
Because foolishness is innate in humanity (Prov. 22:15), each must learn and abide by the truth that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Prov. 14:12). Therefore, it is only those who accept and attend to rebuke that will become wise. It is only those who heed instruction and correction that will get understanding.
Accepting the humbling truth of Proverbs 14:12 is essential to wisdom. It paves the way for instruction in wisdom which contains the rebukes of life.
