“The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, but the way of the upright is a highway” (Proverbs 15:19).
A modern proverb bluntly declares: “Life’s hard. It’s harder if you’re stupid.”
This ancient proverb definitely indicates that some people make life much harder for themselves than others do.
For the lazy person, life is hard—no matter how many conveniences and labor-saving devices they may have. The reason for their hard life is not because of their outward circumstances which are beyond their control; rather, it is because of their own lack of initiative, work ethic, and perseverance. Being indolent and slothful, the sluggard and slacker will always make a towering mountain out of the smallest molehill of work. For them, life is like trying to penetrate a thick, protective hedgerow of thorns. It is always hard.
Because the righteous man is determined that whatever he does will be done heartily and unto the Lord (Col. 3:23), his vigorous mindset and vibrant work ethic will be blessed. Life’s difficulties and challenges become opportunities for, not hindrances to, further blessings.
Life is hard. It’s harder if you are lazy.
