“In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but in the revenue of the wicked is trouble” (Proverbs 15:6).
The righteous characteristics of self-control, faithful stewardship, and patience (which makes delayed gratification possible) are essential materials for building material wealth. The unrighteous characteristics of selfishness, pleasure-seeking, and waste are the sure tools of poverty (Prov. 21:17).
In addition, righteous living is essential to spiritual wealth. The abundant life—eternal life found in quality of life in this world and quality plus quantity of life in the world to come—is only in Christ (John 10:10). In Christ are all spiritual blessings (Eph. 1:3) In Christ is spiritual completeness (Col. 2:10). In Christ are the precious spiritual treasures of love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). These lavish blessings are in the house of the righteous.
The life of the unrighteous is destitute of this spiritual abundance. Instead, the revenue of the wicked is a steady income stream of trouble.
