“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).
The word “sustainability” has been a hot button word in several circles in recent years. Often it is found when people discuss the current levels of supply and usage of natural resources. Using it when discussing spiritual matters and important life decisions is most appropriate.
Living righteously is one of the most sustainable decisions you can make. Not because it is easy, but because, like godliness, it is profitable in this life and in the life to come (1 Tim. 4:8). When the final fruit grown on the tree of righteousness is access to the tree of life (i.e., eternal life), living a life of sustained righteousness is the only wise course of action to pursue.
In addition, living righteously and seeking to influence others to do likewise is shrewd stewardship of your time, talents, and opportunities. Helping others—your mate, children, friends, brethren—to live righteously is the wisest and best way to live. It is sustainable. It is life at its best.
