Jesus in Hebrews

The inspired titles attached to Jesus in the book of Hebrews can be categorized in four ways. These are:

His nature: Jesus is the Son (1:2). He is God (1:8).

His functions in life: Jesus is the apostle of our confession (3:1). He is the author and finisher of faith (12:2).

His function in death: Jesus is the captain of our salvation (2:10).

His functions in heaven: Jesus is our forerunner (6:20). He is our great (4:14), merciful and faithful (2:17) High Priest (5:6) over the house of God (10:21) and of the good things that have now come (9:11). He is a minister (I.e., a public servant who serves at his own expense) (8:2). He is the mediator (8:6, 9:15, 10:24) and surety of a better covenant (7:22). He is our helper (13:6) and the great Shepherd over His sheep (13:20).

Just as Isaiah prophesied, His name is wonderful (Isaiah 9:6) and rightfully has been placed above every name that is named (Ephesians 1:21).

What a friend we have in Jesus.
