Let Brotherly Love Continue

“Let brotherly love continue” (Hebrews 13:1).

Unity among God’s people is good and pleasant (Psalm 133:1). It is like the refreshment felt by the body when a precious, soothing oil is poured out on parched skin (Psalm 133:2). It is like the cool, crisp dew which falls in the valley of a nearby mountain (Psalm 133:3).

Christ has tasked His followers to walk worthy of their high and holy calling (Ephesians 4:1). To do this, they must vigorously endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3). Such unity cannot be achieved or maintained without sincere and fervent brotherly love (1 P eter 1:22).

The verb translated “continue” (meno) is imperative in form. It denotes a state which begins and remains.

Brotherly love is to be a permanent fact in God’s spiritual family. It is essential to the unity God desires His people to have.
