Because of Jesus, New Testament Christianity is unlike any other world religion. No person, no philosopher, no angel compares to Him. The Bible’s Old Testament is permeated with promises, predictions, and foreshadowing of Him and the spiritual kingdom He established two thousand years ago.
The first promise God made concerning Jesus was in the Garden of Eden when the serpent was told, “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; He shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15).
Just as Satan used a woman to introduce sin into human history, God would use a woman to introduce the divine solution to sin – a Savior named Jesus (Matthew 1:21). God’s promise of the seed of woman – about 4,000 years prior to Jesus’ birth – is powerful proof of the New Testament’s declaration that Christ and Christianity were eternally purposed by God (Ephesians 3:9-11).
Isaiah’s prediction of a virgin conceiving and giving birth to a son (Isaiah 7:14) provides a precise commentary on how this divine promise would be kept. No person has or ever will be introduced into human history this way. Since the dawn of time, human procreation has necessitated sexual relations between a child’s father and mother. Jesus is the lone exception. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary of Nazareth and informed her that she would conceive and bring forth a son named Jesus (Luke 1:31), she asked, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” (Luke 1:34). Such a conception necessitated a miracle and demonstrates the enduring truth that with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).
Being the seed of woman, Jesus can and ought to be referred to as the Son of God (Luke 1:35) and Immanuel– “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). He is unique, superlatively and categorically different than all others – in a class by Himself. He is beyond all comparison. He has no equal. He is the only-begotten Son of God.
Being the seed of woman, Jesus partook of flesh and blood. He was made like humanity in every way, then tempted in all points like we are. He wept. He slept. He hungered. He thirsted. He had friends. He had enemies. He paid taxes. He worshiped weekly. He prayed. He fasted. He rested. He experienced every feeling connected to humanity.
Being the seed of woman was essential to deity’s great, eternally purposed plan of salvation. To redeem slaves of sin and make them Jehovah’s sons and heirs, “God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, born under the Law” (Galatians 4:4). God’s atoning Lamb was neither a mere human nor an angel of heaven. He was God’s beloved Son. God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son to save perishing humanity from certain condemnation.
Jesus: The Seed of Woman testifies of God’s omniscience, power, and love. It proclaims Jehovah’s faithfulness to His promises and the many infallible proofs of the Bible’s divine authorship. It reveals the uniqueness of the only-begotten Son of God – the only person in human history to be fully human and fully God.
Jesus: The Seed of Woman is an inescapable proof of Jesus’ deity, of the Bible’s inspiration, of the unfathomable power and love of God, and of your need to be a disciple of Jesus.
The Son of God became the Seed of woman so that men and women could become sons and heirs of God.
