“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days” (Hebrews 11:30).
God’s ways are not man’s ways (Isaiah 55:8). Only a sovereign Being could: avert a death plague via the blood of one-year-old lambs (v. 28); deliver a nation of slaves via a dry pathway through a Middle Eastern Sea (v. 29); and destroy the wall of a highly fortified city with a seven-day hike around it (v. 30).
Faith in the God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Eph. 3:20) requires that we rid ourselves of all preconceived ideas. “Behold, I thought, he will surely…” (2 Kings 5:11) is a surefire way to live disobediently to Jehovah.
Faith in the one true God necessitates constant watchfulness for the insidious idolatry of making a god in our image. Faith is trusting and obeying God on His terms.
Faith is an epic challenge.
