“For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect...For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified” (Hebrews 10:1, 14).
The Law and its many sacrifices could never make perfect those who approached God (v. 1). Everyone and everything was ever in a state of imperfect. Something was always lacking.
Not so with Christ (v. 14). His single offering of Himself has perfected for all time those who obey His gospel. The sin-debt was paid in full at Calvary. Every Christian—sanctified by His blood—has been placed in a relationship of complete reconciliation to and full fellowship with God.
No one, no thing, nobody else is needed. Jesus completed perfectly the task His Father gave Him (John 17:4). Being fully tested in all points and having passed each test perfectly, He is the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him (Hebrews 5:9). By His death, He replaced the Law—which made nothing perfect (Hebrews 7:19)—with His perfect law of liberty (James 1:25).
What spiritually sane person rejects the perfect so He can embrace the flawed?
