“then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’ He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:9-10).
Sanctification is a significant doctrine of Scripture. It is the quality of perfect holiness which separates Jehovah and his written word into preeminence over all others. God’s holy, holy holiness is declared in the Old and New Testaments alike (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8).
The will of God in which Jesus delighted and came to do in the body prepared for Him in Mary’s womb was what motivated His life of careful, diligent, and loving obedience. His sanctification to God’s will is what got Him crucified. The pure caliber of His sanctification to God’s will is what made His offering of Himself acceptable to God.
Because God’s written will declares that everyone who obeys the gospel will be added to the blood-bought, sanctified body called the church (Acts 2:47), every child of God has been washed, sanctified, and justified (1 Corinthians 6:11) by and in submission to God’s will. Like Jesus, sanctification of the Lord God in the heart is a defining characteristic of His disciples.
The possibility of becoming a Christian exists because of Jesus’ sanctification to God’s will. The reality of you becoming a Christian and being faithful as a Christian rests upon your sanctification to God’s will.
Have you been sanctified by that will? Are you sanctified to that will?
