Written of Me

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God’” (Hebrews 10:7).

The quantity of predictive prophecy found in the Bible places it in its own category. The prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Nahum, and Zephaniah addressed stout denunciations and stern predictions about nations and people outside the physical descendants of the patriarch Jacob/Israel. Repeatedly, historians and archaeologists have confirmed the precise accuracy of these numerous prophecies. This declaring of the end from the beginning and foretelling from ancient times things that are not yet done (Isaiah 46:10) over several centuries is ample and infallible proof of the existence of Jehovah and His authorship of the Holy Scriptures.

In addition to predictions about ancient nations and people, the Scriptures have an equally massive and (possibly, even more) impressive number of predictions specifically about the Messiah. Psalm 40:6-8—as quoted in Hebrews 10:5-7—is one such example. According to Jesus Himself, His incarnation, life, crucifixion, and resurrection fulfilled prophecies about Him which can be found in all three sections of the Jewish Old Testament—the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms (Luke 24:44).

There are many valuable contributions the Old Testament make to the new covenant which Jesus established. None is more precious than the myriad of things written about Jesus the Messiah.
