Blatant Blasphemy

For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices, there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Hebrews 10:1-4).

Of the many blasphemous teachings found in Premillennialism, one of the most heinous is it contention that Jesus will re-institute animal sacrifices at the temple in Jerusalem and they will be offered in worship to God for a thousand years.

It is blasphemous because it implicates God, His character, and His wisdom. According to Hebrews 10, Christ’s atoning sacrifice is vastly superior to the Old Testament’s sacrificial system.

  • It is the substance which the Old Testament foreshadowed (v. 1).

  • It provided permanent purification which the Old Testament did not (v. 2).

  • It was a remedy for sin, not a reminder (v. 3).

  • It was sufficient in caliber; the Old Testament’s was not (v. 4).

For Jehovah to have the means and ability to replace an inferior sacrificial system with the sufficient and superior one in Christ demonstrates His goodness, wisdom, and grace. It is blatant blasphemy of God and Christ to teach that in some future millennium the superior sacrifice of Christ will be replaced with a return to the inferior offerings of the blood of bulls and goats.

All blasphemy of God—explicit or implicit—is heinous.
