“…that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18).
Doubting God and His word is a timeless and powerful weapon in Satan’s arsenal. “Has God indeed said…” (Genesis 3:1) were the first words spoken in human history by the father of lies.
In times of spiritual vulnerability and sluggishness, Satan invariably asks: “Why bother?” Sadly, there are Christians who cannot give a powerful and effective answer to this sinister ambush. This is not as God would have it to be.
God has provided every one of His children with a vigorous and effective defense. We have a “strong consolation” for practicing spiritual fortitude and defending ourselves from the fiery darts of doubt and discouragement. Our strong consolation includes:
-
God’s holy character. God cannot lie. It is impossible. Therefore, His word is utterly and absolutely trustworthy.
-
God keeps His word, all of His promises. The very fact that the Holy Bible has a New Testament is a fulfillment of a two-thousand-year-old promise God made to Abraham at Moriah.
Your strong consolation should energize and strengthen your grip on your hope, the anchor of your soul.
