“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:11-12).
Christianity is a religion with no spiritual coat tails. Neither righteousness nor wickedness is a transferable commodity: You cannot be righteous for someone else, and no one can be righteous for you. Each one of us stands alone before God.
You bear full responsibility for your choices in life. If you hear and refuse to believe and obey the gospel, you will be personally punished for your foolish choices. If you hear and obey the gospel, you will be fully rewarded for that wise decision. If you obey the gospel and fail to show the diligence essential to living a faithful Christian life, you and you alone will bear God’s eternal rejection and punishment. If you become a child of God and remain faithful to Him, you will fully realize your hope of heaven.
Spiritual diligence and growth is a personal responsibility. It is a duty God has assigned each one of His children. There are no exceptions.
Each one of Christ’s disciples must decide between diligence and sluggishness/laziness.
Each one decides for himself and no one else.
Each one will be rewarded or punished based upon his decision.
Each one has a monumental responsibility to live wisely.
