“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12).
Even if it is wearing lipstick and a wig, a pig is still a pig.
The same thing is true about unbelief.
Satan is skilled at putting lipstick and a wig on unbelief and then telling us it is not evil.
Needing a hunch, a nudge, an intuition, or a “sign” in addition to God’s written word sounds innocent enough. Such “lipstick and a wig” is not a big deal!
This is exactly what the rich man of Luke 16 thought (and was terribly mistaken).
Rich man: Father Abraham, I beg you to send Lazarus to my father’s house for I have five brothers and I want them to not come to this place of torment (vv. 27-28).
Abraham: They have God’s word; let them hear it (v. 29).
Rich man: “No father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent” (v. 30).
Abraham: If they do not hear God’s word, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead (v. 31).
An evil heart of unbelief is an apostate one, even if it is wearing lipstick and a wig!
