“And: ‘You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.’” (Hebrews 1:10-12).
To hear some modern-day Baal worshipers screech you would think that the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics were just discovered yesterday. Like any other finite entity, our solar system and universe has a divinely given expiration date. (The fact that the estimated number of years is given in millions is not something these earth idolaters care to dwell upon for very long. They never let this stubborn fact deter them from their strident crusade to “Save the Earth” now!)
Unlike these idolaters and their “Green” religion, the Bible is internally consistent. It teaches that our universe has a beginning (when the eternal God created time, space, and matter—Genesis 1:1). This finite universe will have an end date (when the eternal God causes time, space, and matter to cease to exist). And, most importantly, this eternal God will remain, completely unchanged by the passage of time.
Saving the expiring planet pales into immense insignificance when compared to saving your immortal soul. This earth will perish; the heavens with our sun will all grow old like a garment, but the new heavens and new earth in which righteousness and the righteous dwell will be forever.
Keep the main thing the main thing: Save your soul.
