“But they have not all obeyed the gospel…” (Romans 10:16).
The seriousness of not obeying the gospel cannot be exaggerated. Its sobering significance is described in three different New Testament passages.
Romans 10:16-17. To not obey the gospel is to not believe the Messianic prophecies and predictions; it is disbelief in their report. It is to not hear the word of God. Everyone who does not hear God’s word disbelieves the gospel and will be condemned (Mark 16:16).
1 Peter 4:17-18. To not obey the gospel is to not become a member of the house/family of God. It is to choose ungodliness over righteousness. This choice eliminates any possibility of being an heir of God and the recipient of an incorruptible, undefiled, and eternal inheritance in heaven (1 Peter 1:4).
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9. To not obey the gospel is to guarantee for yourself punishment with an everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power. In flaming fire and with His mighty angels, Jesus will take vengeance on everyone who has not obey the gospel. His punishment will be just.
Have you or have you not obeyed the gospel?
