“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:28-32).
The inevitable course of ungodliness and unrighteousness is enunciated quite succinctly in Romans 1:18-32. When American history is placed beside it, one can easily trace the degeneration of a nation whose founding fathers sought to construct a nation upon solid Biblical principles. Described in verses 18-27 are the first four powerful spiritual plagues inflicted on America: Modernism, Humanism, the “ME generation”/Sexual Revolution, and the Homosexual Movement (see last four blogs).
The final result of America’s embrace of evil is described in Romans 1:28-32. Its presence can be found beginning in the 1990s. What most Americans call postmodernism and political correctness, Paul identifies as “a reprobate mind”. Postmodernism is the foolish doctrine that truth is whatever I believe it to be. Nothing more clearly and concisely displays this reprobate mind than the infamous Presidential statement in 1998: “It depends upon what the meaning of ‘is’ is.” People who have such a debased mind and the vile behaviors it produces and those who approve of such practices are deserving of death (v. 32).
The obvious and irresistible conclusion that any honest person must draw is that when America’s culture gets so saturated by this debased thinking and the practices it spawns, America will not have a future, just a funeral.
