“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).
Righteousness in a human begins with a right view of God, self, and sin. The alchemy of these perspectives results in the right response to sin—mourning. From the tears of godly sorrow and penitence emerge the next link in the perfect chain of righteousness and blessedness—the right use of one’s will (i.e. meekness).
Contrary to the erroneous thinking of some, meekness is not weakness or cowardice; it is power under control. It is the intentional mindset that continually says, “God knows best; His will is always perfect; therefore, I will submit my will to His”. It is the sanctifying of God and His authority upon the throne of your heart. It is the dethroning of self-will and fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
The world is dominated by the belief of “might makes right”, but Jesus says, “right makes might”. Because of their trust in God, the meek reign as kings over themselves and their circumstances. Only the meek can live their lives in contentment and peace.
