Comfort and Peace

“But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. Peace to the brethren…” (Ephesians 6:21-23).

Few things comfort the human heart and securely guard it with peace like a real-life exhibition of God’s providence. Just as the ordeals Joseph and Esther faced, Paul’s arrest because of false charges and five years of judicial shenanigans by the Jewish leaders and Roman magistrates was meant for evil, but God worked all things together for good. The gospel was advanced in Rome; more, bolder proclamation of Christ was heralded in the Imperial City because of Christ’s ambassador in chains (Philippians 1:12-17). Paul rejoiced in this (Philippians 1:18) and wanted Tychicus his beloved brother in the Lord to comfort others with a knowledge of his affairs.

Genuine trust in the providence of our Sovereign God brings great peace (Matthew 6:25-34). Like a fully armed sentry on duty, the peace of God can and will guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). What peace permeates the hearts and what comfort fills the minds which know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28)!

With a joyful and prayerful trust in God’s providence, you can be anxiety-free, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (who was the ultimate demonstration of God’s sovereignty and providence).

What a refuge and shelter of comfort and peace is God’s providence!
