Your treasure and your heart are inseparable. “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
To be the righteous Son of God, Jesus had to be about His Father’s business (Luke 2:49). To be righteous like Jesus, cultivating and embracing proper values is not optional.
God graciously gives you material blessings because of His love. Such blessings enable you to provide for your own and help others. Your stewardship of His blessings provides irrefutable evidence of your values.
Jesus’ urgent counsel is to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:20). This is money wisely invested and is much better placed than any money in the bank.
“Follow the money” is excellent and sound advice for anyone who really wants to know what is most treasured by another.
So, follow the money in your life. What does the bottom line on the balance sheet of your stewardship declare?
Follow the money, and you will know for sure whether you are laying up treasures on earth or in heaven.
