“Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, but a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding…a man of understanding has wisdom” (Proverbs 10:13, 23).
Understanding is superior to knowledge. A person can gather much information and increase what he knows without having the insight to use that knowledge wisely.
The late Dr. Carl Sagan was a brilliant astronomer. He was well informed about our breathtaking solar system, galaxy, and universe. However, unlike David, Dr. Sagan’s study of the heavens did not result in the wisdom and understanding to cry out “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:1, 9). He lived and died an atheist. Though quite learned and knowledgeable, he was devoid of understanding.
Don’t simply be a knowledgeable person. Be a person who has wisdom and understanding.
Your back (and soul) will thank you.
