In heaven, gold is such an insignificant commodity, it is used to pave its streets (Revelation 21:21). As Proverbs 10:2-3 demonstrates, there definitely are things that money cannot buy. “Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death. The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish, but He casts away the desire of the wicked.”
Money cannot deliver from death (v. 2). This is true about physical death where your spirit separates from your body (cf. Luke 12:16-21). This is also true about spiritual death where the wicked are separated from God eternally. All the rich man’s earthly wealth and assets could not purchase even a single drop of relief when he died lost (Luke 16:19-26).
Money cannot influence God’s providence (v. 3). God knows which children of His make His heart glad, and He is ever mindful of them. David’s observation remains true: “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25). Not so for the wicked, no matter how much money he has.
