“A false witness who speaks lies” (Proverbs 6:16-19).
“Fake news” is far more sinister in the eyes of God than its rather innocent sounding moniker may make it appear. Such propaganda is sheer wickedness, and He abominates it.
A witness is commonly found in a court of law. It is not an accidental occurrence. A civil trial is scheduled, and its witnesses are informed of the date, time, and place. A witness knows ahead of time his/her requirement to testify.
A lie is an intentional statement. It is more than simply uttering something that is inaccurate. It is a deliberate choice of stating something that is false while knowing what the truth is.
A false witness who deliberately and intentionally lies combines the abhorrent of lying lips with the abomination of shedding the blood of the innocent.
What evil it is to deliberately destroy another’s reputation, liberty, and (possibly even) life with a lie, especially while under oath!
