Like Adam and Eve, every human must decide a most critical question: Will I live by wise or unwise faith? We must decide in whom we will place our trust. The choices are mutually exclusive and eternally significant. Our options are clearly stated in “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil” (Proverbs 3:5, 7).
An unwise faith trusts in one’s own understanding. It follows the way that seems right to us. Its path seems wise, yet its destination is death (Proverbs 14:12). Many choose this path (Matthew 7:13) and have an eternity to regret it.
A wise faith wholeheartedly trusts in Jehovah. It follows the way that Jesus blazed (Hebrews 12:2); its way requires the fear of the Lord and the departure from evil. Its destination is eternal life in the place prepared for us by Jesus in His Father’s house (John 14:2-3). Few choose this path (Matthew 7:14) and have an eternity to rejoice in it.
