Repeated foolishness is like a dog that returns to its vomit (Proverbs 26:11). Therefore, God clearly desires all people to pursue wisdom and enjoy its manifold blessings. Proverbs 2:6-9 beautifully describes the wondrous relationship between God and wisdom. It is written: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice and preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.”
Consider carefully the following truths about Jehovah and wisdom:
- Jehovah is the Source of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding (v. 6). It should come as no surprise, then, that Paul states that the holy Scriptures are able to make one wise unto salvation (2nd Timothy 3:15) and that James exhorts anyone who lacks wisdom to ask of God in faith (James 1:5-6).
- Jehovah is the Protector of those who choose the wise path of uprightness (vv. 7-8). He is the personal Guardian and Preserver of the wise. What a bodyguard! What a security detail!
- Jehovah is the Benefactor of the wise (v. 9). He profusely blesses the wise with understanding of righteousness, justice, equity, and goodness.
What a glorious connection there is between God and wisdom!
