The Manifold Blessings of Wisdom

Actions have consequences.  When God said, “Let there be light”, there was light (Genesis 1:3).  If a person prizes, prioritizes, and pursues wisdom (Proverbs 2:1-4), he will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God (Proverbs 2:5).  But, that is not all.

In Proverbs 2:10-22, Solomon details several more of the manifold blessings of wisdom.  Here, it is written: “When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, 12 to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things, from those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness; who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked; whose ways are crooked, and who are devious in their paths; 16 to deliver you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words, who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. For her house leads down to death, and her paths to the dead; none who go to her return, nor do they regain the paths of life— so you may walk in the way of goodness and keep the paths of righteousness.  21 For the upright will dwell in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.”

Consider briefly these additional blessings of wisdom:

  • Preservation and safety (v. 11)
  • Deliverance from evil and ungodliness (vv. 12-15)
  • Deliverance from the curse and consequences of immorality (vv. 16-20)
  • Enduring blessedness (v. 21), instead of complete destruction (v. 22)

What wondrous blessings are lavishly poured out by Jehovah upon the wise!
